Why does the ISO sensitivity start at 200?

The CCD for is intended to exercise the best performance with an equivalent ISO sensitivity of 200. If we reduced the equivalent ISO sensitivity to 100 or less, the image quality would no longer be acceptable.

 

What is the A/D conversion rate?

The K100D Super uses 12bit A/D conversion per color channel.

 

From what materials is the K100D Super body constructed?

The K100D Super has a stainless-steel chassis and polycarbonate exterior.

 

May I change the color tone of a picture?

Yes, you may change the color tone of picture by selecting Bright or Natural.

Bright: Images are finished brightly with contrast and sharpness

Natural: Images are finished naturally and suitable for retouching

 

Is there an interchangeable focusing screen available?

No

 

What is the field of view of the LCD monitor?

Approximately 100%

 

Does the AF function work in low light?

Yes, the built-in flash will discharge automatically several times (AF assist), except when the camera is set to the Sport or Flash off mode.

 

How long does the date and time stay in memory when the battery is removed? Does the internal clock run while the battery is removed?

The camera will remember the date and time, and the internal clock will continue to run for approximately 48 hours after the battery is removed.

Note: The above data is based on testing after the camera has already run with a new, fully charged battery for a minimum of 12 hours. A brand new camera that has not yet passed 48 hours with a fully charged battery may display different results.

What kind of memory does the K100D Super use for storage?

The K100D Super uses Secure Digital (SD memory) cards.

 

Which SD memory cards May be used?

You should be able to use any SD card in your camera. While Pentax does not guarantee compatibility with any particular manufacturer or model, we have seen consistent compatibility with SD cards from Panasonic (32 / 64 / 128 / 256 / 512MB / 1GB), SanDisk (32 / 64 / 128 / 256 / 512MB / 1GB), and Toshiba (32 / 64 / 128 / 256 / 512MB/1GB)

 

Can a MMC (Multi-media card) be used with *istDL?

No

 

Does the performance of the SD memory card influence a shooting interval?

Using a SD memory card with a slow recording speed may influence the number of images captured in the continuous shooting mode.

 

Can the brightness of LCD monitor be adjusted?

Yes

 

Can I view images on a television?

Yes. By using the AV cable (I-AVC28), you May capture and play back images on a TV that has a Video-In port.

Note: Make sure that both the TV and the camera are turned off before connecting the cable.

 

Can all PENTAX 35mm interchangeable lenses be used with the K100D Super?

Yes, however there are restrictions when using lenses other than DA, D FA, FA, FA J series lenses. When using D FA or FA lenses the aperture ring must be set to the A (auto) position. A-series lenses are manual focus only. Lenses without the A (auto position) require the user to set the custom function to use non-A position lens. These lenses also lack the contacts to make full use of the 16 segment metering system.

 

Can PENTAX 645 lenses, 67 lenses and S (Screw mount) lenses be used with K100D Super?

PENTAX 645, 67-system lenses and S (Screw mount) type of lenses may be used with an adapter, though some functions may not be available with certain lenses.

 

What happens when the aperture ring is set other than (Auto) position?

The camera operates in AV (Aperture Priority) mode even if the mode dial is at P or AV when the aperture is set to a value other than A

 

Can non-PENTAX interchangeable lens be used?

Not recommended, we assume no responsibility or liability for damage resulting from the use of lenses made by other manufactures.

->CAPTURE AND PLAYBACK

 

What is the continuous shooting mode?

Pictures may be taken continuously while the shutter release button is held down. The K100D Super records images consecutively at a speed of approximately 2.8 frames per second. The number of pictures captured will vary with the resolution and quality setting.

 

Can a remote control be used?

Yes, the optional IR remote control F is available.

 

May I take a picture while using the LCD monitor to view my subject?

No, this is due to the mechanism of a Single Lens Reflex Camera. In a Single Lens Reflex Camera the mirror reflecting the image to the viewfinder is in front of CCD. The CCD only activates when the shutter release is triggered and mirror moves from in front of the CCD.

 

Can a Polarizing filter be used?

Yes, however be sure to use the Circular Polarizing Filter (C-PL/ Circular PL). A Linear Polarizing Filter may effect exposure and AF.

 

Can the white balance be adjusted manually?

Yes, you can adjust the white balance depending on the light source by selecting Manual White Balance in the Fn menu.

 

What is the Guide Number of the built- in flash?

GN 15.6 (ISO200/m)

 

What focal length does the built-in flash cover?

Angle of coverage: 18mm lens angle of view (equivalent 28in 35mm format)

 

Is there flash compensation available?

Yes, you may change the flash output in a range of -2.0EV ~ +1.0EV by setting the Flash Exp. Comp in the Rec.Mode menu when using built-in Flash or External flash.

 

Can the built-in flash be used with any type of lens?

The PENTAX DA, D FA, FA J, FA and F lenses are compatible with the built-in flash. The built-in flash fully discharges when used with lenses that have no A position on the aperture ring. Vignetting may occur depending on the lens being used. We recommend taking a test shot to confirm if vignetting occurs.

 

What is the picture mode?

You May select a Picture mode to reflect a special shooting condition. There are eight available Picture modes:

  • Auto Picture mode: Select automatically from Normal, Portrait, Landscape, Macro and Object Modes
  • Normal mode: The basic picture-taking mode
  • Portrait mode: Optimal for capturing portraits
  • Landscape mode: Deepens the focus range, emphasizes contour and saturation and produces a bright image.
  • Macro mode: Take vibrant pictures of flowers up close.
  • Sport mode: Lets you take sharp pictures of a quickly moving subject
  • Night Scene Portrait mode: Lets you capture people against a night view or nightscape
  • Flash off mode: The flash is deactivated. Other settings are the same as Normal.

What type of batteries does the K100D Super use?

The K100D Super can use four AA batteries (AA alkaline batteries, AA lithium battery, AA Ni-MH rechargeable) or two CR-V3 Lithium batteries.

 

Is an AC adapter available?

Yes, the AC adaptor kit (K-AC10) is available as an optional accessory. We do not recommend the use of 3rd party AC adapters.

Any JPEG image taken with the K100D Super is supported, but RAW data is not.
